Svay Rieng - around and about

Well just thought I'd put a few more photos up of my little house/town and interesting bits and pieces, this one is my house and my porch, each morning around 6ish when its not too hot I get up and eat brekkie here. Some more great news I have is that I now have 2 flatmates, Chris and Carrie, they are a British couple, living in Svay Rieng til September, working at a centre for the protection of trafficked victims coming back across the border from Vietnam.

It's been great having them there because I was getting a little lonely I definately miss duds flat! a also have been eating better because we all share the cooking at nights! Other than that, I have started riding my bike to work, although since Rach has also just arrived in Svay Rieng I have finally been given my own moto and we ride out together, but am definately keen to do the bike trip more! Was very ironic on my first trip out I got a flat tyre, and all the Cambodian people stood around to watch me pump my tyre furiously!

Work is going really well also, I have almost finished setting up my first library and have located the site for my second one, am still waiting on some funding to come through tho hopefully! Also have been working with REDA staff to create a more participatory, interactive sabuy sabuy programmes, which I conducted my first one the other day, it really did go well, had the children drawing posters and playing games I taught them the game 'statues'. Was a big hit!

This is me and michael in Svay Rieng, she is from Alaska and is a Peace Corp volunteer, we get on really well which is nice and she lives about 13 kms away from me, but still manage to catch up enough to dream about yummy food we miss from home, the snow, and create potential future travel plans!

I think this photo is fairly self explanatory, i was buying a belt in the market place and saw this... I think if it was in NZ, OSH would have a field day! But its not so I still walk through the market place stepping over the dead rats, pushing the piles of rubbish out of my way and trying not to breathe too deeply as i pass through the meat section!

These two are Chris and Colin just in front of the market in Svay Rieng... more descriptions to fit the rest of the pics later! Have to run off to a Turkish breakfast now! Ahhh I love Phnom Penh, but still think my rural Svay Rieng retreat is a bit of alright also... ciao xx
