REDA Children

The kids here have grown to be the thing I love most about Cambodia, they are so innocent yet driven and have energy and initiative and are curious and inquisitive with a drive to learn and not a sarcastic or pitiful bone in their bodies! These are two of the three girls at REDA Sokha and Sokun. Both are 12 years old and always smiling, love it.

This is the REDA cook, Chariya (5yrs), me and Srey Mech (cooks granddaughter), just outside the library Chariya is the sweetest little girl ever unfortunately she has contracted HIV from her mother, however she has two brothers at REDA who love her to pieces and look after extremely well.

During my lunchtimes at work I like to try and do things with the children so recently I bought a volleyball and net so sometimes we play, or else I try and play or rather watch them play a game where they all remove there jandals and biff them at other people I think like tiggy but cant quite work out who im supposed to be biffing my jandal at ever so usually I’m sidelined! Kind of like volleyball, if I wasn't the cool cat that bought the set and the oddball, then because of my skill level I would chucked out of the team and be watching on the side… lucky I still have the white foreign factor! Anyway, this photo is of when we went on a bike ride at lunchtime to the famous Svay Rieng Bridge, the kids were so great even took my bike across for me!

And of course a necessary dip was required fully clothed (there is no other way in Cambodia!) And back to REDA slightly late but after an awesome lunchtime this photo is of Bory (hat) Karkuna, Sokun and Vidou.

It’s going to be hard to leave these children at the end of this assignment but I know I’m always welcomed back :)
