VSA and all other good development things... plus a little bit on the side of interest

VSA banner on their webpage: www.vsa.org.nz CHECK IT OUT!

Well today I had the first day of my briefing for VSA, still am no more certain of what I am doing altho I do know that Cambodia is definately the go, wow it makes me so excited to go and explore somewhere new especially when I think of all the oppurtunities it is going to open up for me. For the majority of the day we sat in a not so stuffy or small but stil rather uncomfortable room listening to the contract and insurance guff, i know its all so relevant and important but i mean really!?
The afternoon was better we seperated into smaller groups and got to talk to the external relations unit of VSA, really cool interesting people talked about media, photos, fundrasising etc, they gave us some good tips - for example watching out what you write on your blogs apparently their media talons pick up all VSA stuff (who knows they may be reading this right now!) However I shouldn't worry as long as I'm above the belt so to speak and talk real nice then all should be ok. I will be watching out for media and spies with long lens cameras taking up residence outside my numble abode though!
Probably the highlight of the day was getting all kitted up in VSA shirts, and bucket hats (green and tan) and pretty snazzy over the shoulder bags, then having our photographs taken inside with some trendy poses and outside going for the traditional wellington 'windswept' look! Since I escaped the place I have been reading through squads of paperwork that I received today and have decided that I really need to come up with good answers to questions such as why did I undertake this assignment? and what got me interested in development?
Hmm am still working on that.. however some interesting stuff I did come across that I wanted to share with all who would/could care is VSA's thinking aloud scheme, which has children from all over the world sharing their thoughts here's some of them:
- "Don't always go after things that are lustrous. Instead, look for those things that seem dull and make them lustrous." - Ketsia (South Africa)
-"If you try to understand other people's culture, there would be more peace in the world." - Malo (Tokelau)
Hopefully my experiences over in Cambodia will have me inspiring and being inspired to see things like these children, an aim I think would benefit everyone.
Anyway in other news... Breaking headlines in the media today: Don Brash resigns and Debarcle over stadium rows on wow big deal, just build a stadium! Personally I think it should have been at North Harbour, good infrastructure and a very happening place, but hey if not bring on the waterfront I say, I mean noone would get to the actual rugby games coz they'd all be trapped in our cars, but why not have the average NZ taxpayer throw more money at Auckland, and who knows in return maybe new roads/bridge/tunnel... ooo very exciting!
Wow this blog is getting long... it's rather addictive, I will end it now with just one final thing to say! HI TO JENNI! I hope you are enjoying the Whistler snow - wish I was there and I miss you lots! xx
